We have released huge improvements to schema refresh for cloud connections. With this new release, refreshing schemas for cloud connections is now nearly 10 times faster. Before this update, cloud connection schema refreshes took 47 seconds on average. After this update the average across the platform is 5 seconds.

The much faster speed is possible because the schema refresh process is now incremental. We start at the top level (projects/databases), and work down the tree. As each piece is received, it’s immediately sent to the app and displayed in your schema tree. The top level of the tree loads first while other levels of the schema are being fetched. For most connections, this should be almost instantaneous.

Incremental schema refresh is currently only available on cloud connections to Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, and Postgres. It will also be rolled out for direct connections to these 4 databases soon!
